I took a trip for Memorial Day weekend to Spain and Portugal. We got a good deal on Tap Portugal for only $326 roundtrip. For those of you who have not traveled internationally yet, the flight to Portugal was only 6 hours (same as going east to west coast in US) and they gave us 2 meals and unlimited wine/drinks
In Barcelona, we stayed in the Passeig De Garcia neighborhood where many of Gaudí buildings are. Park Guell has a truly breathtaking view of the city. The city very tourist friendly but also has an authentic local feel to it. The nightlife starts around 11 pm and you can stay out until sunlight and there will still be people partying. The tapas were delicious and the service was good/laid back.
Coming back, I booked a belong layover in Lisbon where I enjoyed small Portuguese bites and lots of wine via a 4-hour local food tour. I was able to leave the airport hassle-free since I had just traveled from another country in the EU and thankfully without my checked bag. The city center is only 30 minutes from the airport so it was easy to navigate during my layover. Lisbon is much more laid back than Barcelona, but I felt both were very friendly cities.
I highly recommend Barcelona for a quick weekend trip!
